About Laura Ellsworth:
Hi, I would like to thank you for visiting my site, "ChoosingToHeal.com." I want to introduce myself and tell you a little about my background, education and experience.
I attended Kentucky Wesleyan College in Owensboro, KY. and received my degree in Psychology. I completed my graduate training in Counseling at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY. I maintain licensure as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) which requires I maintain ethical practice and complete ongoing training in my field.
I have been providing counseling for child sexual abuse victims for over 19 years. I have worked with a local nonprofit United Way Agency in Evansville, Indiana for 17 years. I facilitate a wide range of services for child sexual abuse victims. I have also spoken before groups to provide education about child sexual abuse, offenders and how to deal with this horrific crime against children. I decided to expand my ability to reach a wider population of clients and formed my own agency, Choices in Healing, in 2006.
I am dedicated to helping children, families and adults heal from a crime against their dignity, self-respect and that robs them of an innocence that cannot be replaced. What can occur through healing is the understanding that they can lead normal, happy and productive lives if they choose. I have witnessed people making decisions to thrive and no longer be held captive by their fears, negative self-beliefs or self-damaging behavior choices. I do not judge a persons attempt to heal, I believe everyone does the best they can at any given time. What I am willing to do is help people determine what they want different in their lives and develop a plan to create new ways of coping. This goal also applies to my therapeutic work with other issues involving relationships, self-esteem and parenting.
